Exhibitions currently running:

Your 2012 - In February 2010, staff from the Museum of London Docklands began regular visits to the Olympic Park at Stratford to photograph the ongoing construction work and its impact. Twenty images of the hundreds taken throughout the year have been brought together in this free display at the Museum of London Docklands. Displayed under three categories, the images look at the site under construction, the impact on the surrounding boroughs and the effect the works have had on the local environment. There will also be a display of archive images detailing the fascinating history of the Olympic site. Each picture was taken from a location accessible to the general public in the hope that the display inspires people to go and see this area of East London for themselves as final touches are put in place for 2012. Until 5 February.

Freedom from: Modern slavery in the capital - Freedom from: Modern slavery in the capital explores the personal impact of human trafficking and slavery in London in the 21st century. The exhibition coincides with the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition and is the Museum’s first cross-site exhibition. The display will include a map representing cases of slavery across Greater London as well as personal testimonies of those affected by slavery. These include ‘Gheeta’ who was trafficked from India, made to hand over all her earnings to her trafficker and forced her to cook and clean for him. “I would work nearly 80 hours a week, seven days a week. He would hit me if I didn’t come home straight away after my shift.” Gheeta was also raped. Alongside the personal stories are a series of large-scale commissioned photographs which form the centre-piece of the exhibition. Chris Steele-Perkins from Magnum Photos has taken eleven images which capture survivor journeys, thoughts and a survivor who is now campaigning against slavery and trafficking. Until 7 February.

London, Sugar & Slavery - Visit the only permanent exhibition to examine London’s involvement in transatlantic slavery in our thought-provoking new gallery, London, Sugar & Slavery, In the setting of this historic sugar warehouse, challenge long-held beliefs that abolition was initiated by politicians and be touched by the real objects, personal stories and vibrant art and music that have left their legacy on the capital today.
