Imperial War Museum

Exhibitions currently running:

War Artists in the Middle East - This exhibition, drawn exclusively from the Imperial War Museum’s Art collection, brings together the work of British artists who have documented conflict in the Middle East from the First World War to more recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Containing a number of works that have not been on public display before, this exhibition also incorporates travel journals, interviews, film and photography that document the experiences of artists working in a complex landscape and throughout the social and political changes that have shaped the Middle East we know today. From 8th September until 25th August.

Breakthrough - Breakthrough is a major re-hang of the Imperial War Museum’s collection of British art. The display will incorporate outstanding artworks from the official art schemes of both world wars and significant non-official and contemporary works. Among the items on display will be work by officially commissioned artists such as Paul Nash, CRW Nevinson, John Piper and Eric Ravillious, as well as some recently acquired paintings by William Scott and Robert Colquhoun. Until 31 December.

For Your Eyes Only: Ian Fleming and James Bond - To celebrate the centenary of Ian Fleming’s birth, Imperial War Museum London will launch the first major exhibition devoted to the life and work of the man who created the world’s most famous secret agent, James Bond. The exhibition will examine the extent to which the books and films reflect the reality of the Cold War and how far they were a product of Fleming’s prodigious imagination. The exhibition features fascinating material, much on display for the first time, including a selection of annotated Bond manuscripts and Fleming’s Colt Python .357 Magnum revolver. Until 1 March 2009.

The Holocaust Exhibition - A permanent exhibition that uses artefacts, film documents, photos and survivors testimony to bear witness to the Nazi persecution of the Jews and other ethnic groups. This exhibition is not recommended for under 14s.

Montgomery: Master of The Battlefield - A permanent gallery based on the life and career of Field Marshal Montgomery, commander of the British Army in the North Africa.
